Want Super Fast Customer Support? Go Get It On Twitter

I’ve noticed recently that my customers are expecting a lot faster level of support on their questions (even if they ordered at 2:00 AM on a Sunday and I’m asleep). My recent experiences on Twitter my shed some light.

We all like near-instant gratification to any issues/problems we might be having as consumers. And Twitter is making that possible. Good thing, bad thing? I don’t know but as a consumer I’m digging it.

I use a wonderful software called Screenflow for my screencast videos. They just released a paid upgrade and it didn’t work for me my videos had their watermark added to them since it wasn’t registering my license key. I opened a ticket on their website, they said 24-48 hours for response. Fine.

I go whine on Twitter about the stupid watermarks…in 30 minutes someone from Screenflow not only responded but they fixed it for me! A day after it was taken care via Twitter I got the response to my support ticket asking for more info…it was already taken care of on Twitter.

That amazing level of customer service from Screenflow got me wondering about an issue I’m having with my cable TV. The cable is dangling from the side of my house (it’s been windy the last couple days) so you can see this black cable just dangling there. It’s an eye-sore. I hate calling my cable provide, Comcast because there is always a wait and you have to hit this button and that button to reach a real person on the phone.

So I posted a Tweet to them asking if they could help me get someone out here to fix it…within minutes I get THREE responses. This morning Comcast called me to schedule an appt.

People can argue about Twitter’s effectiveness or that’s it’s a waste of time till the cows come home but when you have a major, HUGE company like Comcast tripping themselves over to help me in minutes shows how effective it can be beyond trying to make money off Twitter as Internet marketers.

Kudos to companies like Comcast and Telestream (Screenflow makers) for taking lighting fast customer service to a whole different level via social media. Even though as a one-man Infopreneur I’m dreading the day I get this email: “I emailed you a questions 3 minutes ago and I haven’t gotten a response from you yet–your customer service stinks”.

How breaking the law can help your marketing.

Ok…Not actually breaking the law, but using what the law refers to as “Guilt by Association”.

I’m James Foster from Alan Petersen’s team. You’ve probably never heard of me before, because I normally work behind the scenes writing copy, but Alan is out of the office today finishing up some stuff for his Twitter Unwrapped WSO, so I decided to hijack his blog and do something for special for his readers (unexpected goodie of information). Anyways… this guilt by association thing is the quickest and easiest way I know of to position yourself in a market – so customers start looking for you instead of you needing to hunt them down.

The way this works is pretty simple. You do two things…

First, you start talking about your niche and proving yourself as an expert so people can see you aren’t just blowing smoke.

Secondly, start having conversations with the mavens in your field – and make those conversations visible. You want people to see you talking to the “Guru’s”. (This is where the guilt by association comes in) If people see you with the guru’s, either consciously or unconsciously, they’ll put you on the same level as the guru in their mind.

They think “Oh if so and so is listening to them, then I probably should too”. It gives them a reason to listen to you.

I like to think of it as guilt by association positioning.

Now, for the longest time, my biggest problem was that I couldn’t get these A-List marketers to give me the time of day… How was I, a virtual unknown, going to get big names to listen to me?

Twitter is the answer. Now-a-days (with the help of a few special programs and attention grabbing tactics) I am able make great connections and JV partnerships that I never would have thought possible before.

I have to admit… It took me like 6 months to get to this point; but I didn’t have any help like Alan’s kick @$$ Twitter Unwrapped. Twitter Frenzy

There is a lot of confusion within the Internet marketing community about Twitter. Is it worth it? Can I make money using Twitter? The answer is yes but it’s not about tweeting affiliate links. You won’t get anywhere using Twitter that way. Think of it as a fantastic tool that will help you network, get more traffic–Google loves Twitter–they’ll probably buy them soon , and getting like-minded people to follow you.

I’ve been on Twitter for over a year but it wasn’t until a few months ago that I really “got it”. Stop being on the fence already and get on there. It makes good business sense.

I’ve actually been busy interviewing folks who are seeing amazing returns from Twittering (thus my lack of blog posts the past few weeks). I’m calling it “Twitter Unwrapped“.
