Exit Popup Hell – Worth It?

The exit popup. You know those pesky pop-up windows that keep popping up as you try to leave a website. They’re popular among Internet marketers. A lot of folks swear by their effectiveness. I don’t use them so I have not tested them personally so I can’t say how effective they are at “saving a sale” especially in the Internet marketing niche when a lot of folks know they’re is a pretty good chance that there is an exit popup with a discount for you. So are they saving a sale or just offering a discount?

And that is one of the reason’s I don’t like them. Those who like the offer and buy pay full-price while those who try to exit maybe even on purpose checking for discounts get the deal. Doesn’t seem like a fair deal to me.

Still, I would consider using one exit pop-up but not offering a straight discount. Perhaps a stripped-down version of the product so as to not take a dump on the customer who took me up on your first offer.

But what’s really annoying are the Internet marketers that are using 2+ exit pop-ups. In that aggressive push to make a sale at all cost they’re shooting themselves in the foot since you’re annoying potential customers on your future products.

It’s a scorched earth marketing strategy that just doesn’t make sense. And they argue how it works but I bet the majority of people using multiple exit pop-ups don’t test the effectiveness themselves they just parrot another Internet marketer who says how well they work.

I’m seeing more of these popup in the IM niche like this one who put’s out 5 exit pop-up’s as he continues to lower and devalue his product. It just reeks desperation.
