WordPress 2.7 has arrived! I upgraded to the new WordPress version 2.7 and I like it. There are a lot of cool new features. They’ve made the dashboard backend a lot more custimizable and they have added new features that I previously was doing with a plugin. Like the ability of creating a sticky of any post. This is now easily done right from WordPress without a plugin.
Here is a video preview of WordPress 2.7:
Before you upgrade you need to make sure you take the necessary pre-upgrade steps so that your current blog doesn’t get messed up. This happened to me this morning when after upgrading to WP 2.7 one of my plugin got out of whack and it was a big one. The plugin I use to manage and cloak my affiliate links. So one my promotional emails went out with dead links. Luckily one of my subscribers informed. All I had to do was update the permalinks and all was well. But had I first checked I would avoided the problem from the start.
Therefore before you upgrade make sure you check the following:
Plugins – make sure your plugins will work with WordPress 2.7. If it’s a plugin you can live without–go for it, but if it’s an important plugin to your blog check first before upgrade.
Theme – make sure your theme is compatible with WordPress 2.7. . But this is not an all inclusive list. My blog theme isn’t on the list and it works with 2.7.
Back up - before you even think of upgrading make sure you backup your old version so you can bring it up in case your blog is not compatible with version 2.7. This is huge! I wouldn’t have dared upgrading without first backing up my old version.
I also recommend you update your permalinks once you upgrade just to be on the safe side. It won’t hurt anything but it can make all the difference with your site. Had I done this I wouldn’t have sent out a mailing to my list with dead links.
In the end that was the only problem I encountered so it wasn’t too bad in the scheme of things and I’m really liking this new version of WordPress. This is a major upgrade not just a security fix . I’m still figuring out what’s new but I like what I’ve seen so far!
I upgraded to version 2.7 via my webhost who proveides one click upgrade so it was very easy. Check with your host ot see if they offer this as well. If not you can .
