You Must Set Goals
By Alan | December 13, 2008
I just read Lynn Terry’s new post where she asked us: Can You Become A Millionaire Online?
Lynn’s post really stuck a chord with me. I’m guilty of not setting goals and having the laser-sharp focus it takes to succeed as a self-employed Internet marketer. I’m not one to make New Years resolutions since those usually fizzle out by February of the new year but I will be setting goals and an action plan for 2009.
I want to take my business to the next level but I have to have clear goals and an action plan. I love what Lynn wrote about taking action: “just taking action isn’t enough”.
The “take action” phrase is thrown around a lot in Internet marketing especially in the forums. You have to take action. We’ve all heard that before but it’s true that it’s not enough. I’ve seen that effect up close and personal. I’ve taken action. I’ve created several information products in 2008. I’ve setup my affiliate websites, and done other tasks to take action. But without a plan of action and goals I won’t move much forward. Who cares about taking action and putting up an e-book on nice looking website but you don’t make any sales because you didn’t have a plan of action and goals. Throwing up a site online won’t make you much money and yes you did take action to get it up there–so what?
The world does not owe us a living so just because we took action doesn’t mean much if you don’t have a plan of action and goals. So that is what I’m doing in 2009. Goals, focus, tasks, organization, a plan of action not a new years resolution to be quickly forgotten.

Hi, Alan,
Great insight. Action without intention leads nowhere. It is when we are in some sort of action, though, that we can meet opportunity head on. I have been a self-taught learner of im for a while now. Knowing without doing is nothing much, but when doing, much greater things can be born. Thanks. Best, Mary

Thanks for your comments Mary! I loved this line in your comment:
“Action without intention leads nowhere”. I’m going to put it on post-it note and stick it on my white board.
